Bevier House Annual Holiday Candlelight Tours December 5 - 6, 2009. The soft glow of candlelight, the sounds of live classical music, the smell of hot mulled cider, the splendor of Victorian Holiday decorations; all will be experienced by guests at the Bevier House Museum, Marbletown, NY on December 5 & 6 from 12 Noon to 5 PM. Travel back in time to experience the holiday season as celebrated by the Bevier family during two distinctly different eras. Guests will learn about how the Bevier family would have celebrated Christmas in both the Colonial and the Victorian Eras. Both floors of one of Ulster County's largest stone homes are lavishly decorated in Victorian splendor and partly decorated in simple Dutch Colonial. The house radiates beauty as our period costumed docents celebrate the holidays with our guests. Learn about the origin of Dutch customs popularized by Washington Irving, view the holiday spender, such as trees decorated with handcrafted ornaments, period toys, and colorful holiday floral arrangements. New this year will be a display of toys from the 1910's through the 1960's. The display will include all types of toys from many different decades. Hop-a-long Cassidy cap guns will be next to 1917 doll furniture and Lionel trains will run next to 1920s pedal cars.
